BRIDGE

THE BRIDGE PROGRAM

BRIDGE Club - Permission Slip

The Bridge is a unique program of support and positive lifestyle enrichment for the adolescent population. The overall goal of The Bridge is to aid in the healthy development of adolescents. The Bridge differs from other programs in that it is not crisis-oriented; rather, it addresses the challenges of adolescence, in general. The years between 13 and 19 present a whole new set of problems, questions, and issues that need to be dealt with by professionally trained, dedicated, and caring people. This is where The Bridge comes in - it recognizes the special medical, psychological, social, and spiritual needs of this growing population.

Founded by Sr. Helen Owens, OSF, RN, MSN, D.Min., the Weekly Drop-in Sessions, were developed in 1979, with the help of youth and adults, in response to a need for a /safe haven for young people to go and freely talk about their concerns while learning about the consequences of their actions. The Bridge began their Weekly Drop-In Sessions in 1980 and continues to open its doors every Tuesday night to the community. Presently, 3 paid staff and forty youth and adult volunteers staff the Bridge. The staff serves as positive role models with a variety of backgrounds. The teens help facilitate the group and their input and suggestions are used in planning the weekly format.

We have developed our own Bridge Program based on the original Bridge described above for all students in grades 5-8. Your son/daughter is welcome to join this after school activity which runs on Thursdays from 3:15 to 4:30 pm in room D-6
